Summer's ending!!

Summer is coming to an end - it seems that once Labour Day arrives, then the weather changes and yes, it has - today it was much cooler.  The kids are back to school and things are back to normal.  Normal is good.

Movies with Helena and Janis.  We haven't seen each other in a little while because of vacations, etc. so it was very nice catching up.

"Low level marijuana drug dealer David Clark (Jason Sudeikis) is robbed of his money and stash, some of which he owes to his supplier.  His boss, wealthy drug lord Brad Gurdlinger (Ed Helms) forces David to smuggle marijuana from Mexico in order to clear his debt.  Realizing that one man attempting to get through customs is too suspicious, he hires a stripper named Rose (Jennifer Aniston), a runaway teenage girl named Casey (Emma Roberts), and his virgin 18 year-old neighbor Kenny (Will Poulter) to pose as a bogus family called the "Millers".  Because of the extra load of the marijuana on the RV, one of the radiator hoses breaks while going up a steep incline.  A family they had encountered at the border called the Fitzgeralds, consisting of Don (Nick Offerman), Edie (Kathryn Hahn),  and Melissa (Molly Quinn), catch up to them and tow the Millers' RV to a repair shop.  On the trip to the shop, David learns that Don Fitzgerald is a DEA agent after finding his badge and gun in the glove compartment.

The next day, when the Millers head to the shop to pick up the RV, Chacon and his henchman One Eye (Matthew Willig) are waiting for them and prepare to execute the family. They immediately tell Chacon that they aren't a real family and that they didn't know they were stealing from him.  Rose is given a chance to prove that she is a stripper by dancing, and when she gets close, turns a steam vent onto Chacon.  The Millers then escape in the RV, with Kenny behind the wheel.  Due to Kenny's erratic driving, the RV veers off the highway and a tarantula, hiding in a bowl of fruit given to them when they picked up the marijuana, crawls up Kenny's leg and bites his testicle.  As Kenny has a severe allergic reaction to the sting, the Millers head to the hospital.  This further delays the delivery of the contraband, but David re-negotiates with Gurdlinger for a fee of $500,000.  When Kenny is finally released, David rushes him to the RV in a wheelchair and tips him over.  David inadvertently reveals how much he is getting paid, in comparison to how little he offered  to pay each of the others.  Casey, Rose, and Kenny are left in disgust by the revelation, and so David leaves them at the local carnival.

David regrets abandoning them and returns to the carnival, begging them on his knees to come back with him.  On their way back to the RV, One Eye discovers the and as he is about to shoot everyone, Don Fitzgerald comes out of the camper and subdues him.  Chacon then comes around the corner and is about to kill them all, but David hits Chacon and he drops his gun.  Rose picks it up and accidentally shoots Chacon in the shoulder and as he is recovering, Kenny punches Chacon and knocks him out.  Don arrests Chacon and One Eye and tells the Millers that he will arrest them too, but actually gives them the opportunity to leave.  David delivers the drugs to Gurdlinger who tells him he's late and that their deal is off.  DEA agents then crash into the room, arresting Gurdlinger.  The agent in charge is Don, who tells David that he will have to be  in the witness protection program until Gurdlinger's trial.  He then adds that anyone what was a witness to the crime will be in protection, and David smiles.  The Millers are then seen together in a beautiful home, with several marijuana plants growing in the garden."

Not as much creativity going on since my last post, so I'll try and make it impressive with including everything, LOL

This is my latest artistic creation - it's about 16 x 22, a 3D plastic piece painted in turquoise and glued to a black background - it's really quite attractive.......

I found a cute battered money box (piggy bank), I'm sure most of you have had one something like this in your home at one time - my kids had them in the shape of loons.  Well, this little darling was in need of some TLC so I gave it a coat of paint and made it look shabby.  I even dropped some out of circulation pennies in it......

I bought this on-line, from an auction site and gave it a facelift - looking good now......

I also bought three dining chairs from the on-line auction site and am going to be choosing materials and colours of paint very soon and I'll show them in a future post.

You can laugh if you like, but I'm quite comfortable in my quirkiness, so I'll tell you what I did on my way home from my Boutique yesterday... I dumpster dived, dove, whatever!!  I found wood poking out of a dumpster (on top of course) and as quick as that, I thought, hmmmm, I could probably make something out of that, so I dragged it home, assessed it, then dragged it back to my Boutique today and dis-assembled it and then brought the wood back home so I could ponder what to do with it.  I have an idea, but we'll see... and if I am successful, you will see it at a later date also.  Here is the original piece...

Never too old to learn!!

This is my first posting on my new laptop.  I'm not too sure just how confident I am that I can come up with something worth reading as I'm not very comfortable with it yet, including the keyboard.  So, if you find lots of mistakes, we can blame it on that, LOL

It's an ASUS - to be honest, I had never even heard of this make.  I'm sure it is just as good as all the other makes, e.g. Sony, Acer, Gateway, etc. but so far, I have lost this post twice - it just disappeared from the screen - was it me???  I was always an excellent typist, 95 words a minute on an electric typewriter but now I am lucky to be able to get by with around 40 wpm and keeping my fingers on the right keys.  Of course, my twisted fingers (from arthritis) might also have something to do with it.  I'll put the blame wherever I can, LOL

Having said that, let's see what I have been up to lately......

I refinished a lovely coffee table.  A little different from the usual, more square and with a small drawer.  I guess it could be used for more than just a coffee table - would look great in a large foyer.........

Of course, many people would say that they prefer the original wooden look and I do too, but it's so much fun working with my home-made chalk paint.

I also refinished a cute little footstool.  A friend of mine rescued it for me.  Her neighbour's dog had chewed the seat of it and was throwing it out, but my friend knew that I would give it a new life......

And, wallah, the finished product, so cute.

And yet another wooden product.  It seems that is all I did lately, but honest, I did do other things.  This one is a small stool which had absolutely no personality......

and slowly it turned from an ugly duckling into a beautiful swan.....

I used a water-slide decal which I had purchased from The Polka Dot Closet - a fabulous blog and a wonderful place to visit.  Go and check in with Carol.

I also turned a dirty old thing into this, I think it is a toilet roll holder/magazine rack.....

The colour looks a little wishy-washy - it's more of a yellow/black.  The above picture is from my Boutique.

Good for a laugh!!

I wasn't expecting to be writing another post so soon, but it is movie night tonight and Janis, Helena and I went to see the movie "The Heat", so funny, apart from the bad language, but if you can get past that then you will be in for a treat.

FBI Special Agent Sarah Ashburn (Sandra Bullock) is a very skilled and effective investigator, but is despised by her fellow agents for her arrogance and condescending attitude. Hale (Demián Bichir), Ashburn's boss at the New York FBI field office who is being promoted, sends her to Boston to investigate a drug kingpin named Larkin with the promise that she would be considered as his replacement if she can solve the case while showing the ability to work effectively with others. Once in Boston, she is partnered with Shannon Mullins (Melissa McCarthy), a skilled but foulmouthed and rebellious police officer with the Boston Police Department. Ashburn's by-the-book philosophy clashes with Mullins' rugged and violent style of police work. Mullins discovers the details of the Larkin case by stealing the case file from Ashburn and insists on helping her. Ashburn reluctantly agrees, realizing that she needs Mullins' knowledge of the local area.

Ashburn and Mullins follow leads to a local night club owner and successfully place abug on his cell phone. As they leave the club, Ashburn and Mullins are confronted by twoDEA agents, Craig (Dan Bakkedahl) and Adam (Taran Killam), who have been working the Larkin case for several months and are worried that their case will be compromised. After viewing him on a screen in the DEA agents' surveillance van, Ashburn discovers that Mullins' brother, Jason (Michael Rappaport), was recently released from prison, having been put there by Mullins herself, and may be connected to Larkin's organization. Ashburn convinces Mullins to go to her parents' home to ask Jason for information on Larkin. On their arrival at the home, it becomes apparent that Mullins' parents and two other brothers still harbor deep resentment for Mullins' involvement in Jason's incarceration. Jason, who does not have any ill feelings toward his sister, tips her off about the body of a murdered drug dealer hidden in an abandoned car. Upon examination of the body, chemicals on the victim's shoes lead Ashburn and Mullins to an abandoned paint factory, where they witness a drug dealer being murdered by a member of Larkin's organization named Julian (Michael McDonald). The two apprehend Julian and interrogate him regarding Larkin, but are unable to extract any substantial information regarding Larkin's whereabouts.

The pair spends the evening in a bar bonding over several rounds of drinks. After a night of raucous drinking and partying, Ashburn wakes up the following morning to discover that, in her drunkenness, she has given her car keys to one of the bar patrons. After unsuccessfully pleading for the keys, Ashburn watches, along with Mullins, as the car explodes upon being started, having been fitted with a bomb. During the investigation of the explosion, the two discover that Julian has escaped from custody and may mean to harm Mullins' family. Mullins moves the family into a motel, but learns that Jason has joined with the Larkin organization in an attempt to aid the case. Jason gives her a tip about a drug shipment coming in to Boston Harbor. The FBI sets up a sting at the harbor to take down the shipment, but discovers that the ship they have been waiting for is actually only a pleasure cruise ship and Jason has been set up by Larkin. Knowing that he informed the FBI about the supposed drug shipment, Larkin attempts to have Jason killed, but only puts him into a coma.

Mullins vows to bring her brother's attacker to justice. Ashburn and Mullins interrogate Rojas and learn of a warehouse where Larkin houses his operations. After equipping themselves with assault equipment from Mullins' extensive personal arsenal, the two infiltrate the warehouse. Despite taking out several of Larkin's men with a hand grenade, the two women are captured and bound by Julian, who threatens to torture them with knives. Julian is called away by Larkin, but before he leaves the room, he stabs Ashburn in the leg with one of the knives. Mullins removes the knife from Ashburn's leg and uses it to cut the rope binding her hands. Before she can finish freeing herself and Ashburn, they are discovered by Craig and Adam. Craig begins to untie the two women, but is shot and killed by Adam. Ashburn and Mullins deduce that Adam is actually Larkin, having been working his own case from inside the DEA for several months. Julian reenters and is instructed by Larkin to kill Ashburn and Mullins while he goes to the hospital to kill Jason. After Larkin leaves, Mullins, whose hands have already been untied, manages to finish freeing herself and incapacitates Julian. Mullins then frees Ashburn and the two race to the hospital to save Jason.

Upon their arrival, Mullins rushes to find Jason. Ashburn, hindered by the stab wound in her leg, is unable to move quickly. Mullins finds Jason's room, only to discover Larkin standing over his bed with a syringe, intending to kill Jason by injecting air into his vein, causing his death by an air embolism. Mullins drops her weapon in an attempt to save her brother's life. Ashburn, having had to crawl to the room, then enters and subdues Larkin by shooting him in the genitals. With Larkin captured, Ashburn requests to stay in the FBI's Boston field office, having developed a strong friendship with Mullins. Jason is shown having fully recovered from his coma. The film ends with Mullins receiving a commendation from the Boston Police Department, with her family present cheering for her, having reconciled her.
