Spring sprang and I must have missed it!!

I can't believe that it is so long since I last posted.  Where has the time gone?  It amazes me how some people (and God bless them) can write every day and make it interesting and I can only write once in a while and have trouble doing that, to boot, LOL  Anyway, I have begun so let's see where this takes me.....

Last night I made a set of cushion covers for my couch.  I was getting a little tired of the "wintery" ones and thought that I could help Spring make it's mind up to stay if I brightened up my place - yes, we are still getting snow and everyone is so fed up with it.  I can't wait for it to leave with the promise of no more, and then I will hop on the Greyhound bus and go and visit my darling grandbabies.  Oh, back to the cushion covers, here they are.....

It's now morning and as I look out of my window I see that we have been "dumped on" yet once again.  When will it end?

There is nothing much to be done about it, so, life goes on!!

A few weeks ago, a lady I have come to know through crafting, thrifting and The Queen's Cupboard, very kindly gave me a couple of primitive dolls.  My interest grew in this artform after meeting her and I now have a small collection to go along with my own primitive artwork.  Aren't these adorable?

Look what I picked up today from one of the local thrift stores.  I had seen it yesterday but was unable to bring it home.  Of course it was heavy on my mind when I woke up this morning so I decided to get up early and trek down there with one of my shopping buggies in the hope that it was still there.  It was, but, the buggy I brought was just a little too small for it to fit in resulting in my having to trek all the way home to return with a larger buggy.  Don't forget, the weather was lousy too and by this time the heavens had opened up and we were almost having a blizzard.  Anyway, I got it home.  My intention when I bought it was to fix it up and do what needed to be done and then put it in my Boutique for sale.  I don't think that that's going to happen - I'm smitten and since my colour scheme lends itself to this new addition, I just have to find the perfect spot for it, although where it is now may be where it will stay.  Take a look, isn't it adorable?

It needs a little work done on it, e.g. putting the glass back in the door and some spit 'n' polish but doesn't need any painting, I love it just the way it is.  I could put a new handle on the door, but only if something really spectacular comes along, but really, that would be an unnecessary expense.  I have a couple of beautiful old glass knobs that a friend gave to me so I might try one of those.

Since writing the above, I have decided where to put it (thanks to my friend Laurie's help) and this is where it is and where it will stay, well at least until I am fed up with it and then it will probably take a trip to my Boutique, LOL

So, what else is there to talk about....  I "put together" these cushions, bought everything separately and now have them for sale in my Boutique, love them!!

I just finished this whimsical piece of artwork.  More for a laugh than for any talent, LOL  It's named "Wits' End", as in "I'm at my.....".

Well, that's about it for my crafting, but before I leave you, I must mention that it was my darling grand-daughter's first birthday on the weekend and she had a party.  Unfortunately I wasn't able to be there but you can imagine I sure was thinking about her.  I bought this little dress for her to wear and I'm sure she had lots of beautiful clothes for presents............

Sunday, Sunday, so good to me

Daylight Saving Time is not one of my favourite things and for the life of me, I don't seem to understand it (something to do with commerce, isn't it?).  That being said, I did manage to get a reasonable number of hours sleep in and would have been in bed longer I think if a friend had not "phoned" and invited me to go to the movies with her.  I quickly pulled myself together and said that I would love to.  So Dawn and I headed out to the theatre this afternoon to see the following film.  I must say, that for a while I was unsure if I was enjoying it or not but it soon began to capture my interest and in some parts, sympathy, but I'll not say any more in case you want to go and see it for yourself.

He now finds himself living back with his mother (Jacki Weaver) and father (Robert DeNiro) after spending eight months in a state institution on a plea bargain. Here is a primitive Noah's Ark (with animals) which I purchased from Pat at the Queen's Cupboard.  I just couldn't resist it and now have it in my small cream cabinet with all the birdies...............

Talking about birds, I just finished putting together two birdhouses and now have them in my Boutique for sale......

I picked up this little beauty and turned it from a drab this....

As I was walking down the hallway earlier this week, I noticed this beautiful wreath on Laurie's door and yes, I did make it, LOL

Laurie found a tiny wooden chair at one of the thrift stores and brought it around for one of my little primitive animals to sit on, how quaint, it's the one with the raffia seat..................

My last finished projects for the week are these cute wooden boxes I decoupaged using comics and plain wooden boxes like this...........

and made them into this....................

I'm looking forward to warmer weather when I can get on that Greyhound bus and travel to see these little darlings, makes the long trip worth it............

A'thrifting I will go

This is what it looks like outside my apartment patio window this evening.  I couldn't even open the door to get a better photograph as the screen was frozen shut, but you get the idea of how much snow we have had in the last couple of days.  Thank goodness I don't have to shovel......

I'm also pleased to report that I don't seem to have that problem loading my photos to my blog that I had last time.

It's great being retired and being able to please myself in what I do, but there is a drawback and that is how fast the time is going by.  I remember looking forward to Fridays so much when I was working, but now every day is a Friday and sometimes I even have to stop and try to figure out what day it is, LOL  I seem to pace my weeks by the Saturdays I spend at our Boutique and no sooner do I leave there after putting in a whole day that lo and behold Saturday is back and I'm doing it all over again.  The days in between are usually spent shopping for supplies and treasures for our little piece of heaven on earth and I have to show you what I found at one of the thrift stores yesterday.  For me, it's not a simple matter of just putting an item in a car and driving home, no, I don't drive and my form of transportation is my little shopping buggy.  I'm sure that in our city I am known as "Downtown Chrissy" as I can frequently be seen traipsing the downtown area with my recent "finds".  Here's my latest find and considering all the snow we have recently had, it was no easy feat, believe me.

So, that's how I got it home and I'm sure that I had a few funny looks, but I don't care, at my age I sorta, kinda can get away with it, LOL  This is what it looks like now and I'm not sure what I will do to it, paint it or varnish it, but will post it when it is done.  It seems to be quite old, maybe from the 60's???

Now onto my creations for the week.....

These are 5" x 5" canvases which I purchased from Pat at the Queen's Cupboard.  They had a different picture on them which I completely covered and then did my "altered art" thing to them.  Not everyones taste, but I just love them (for now).  They could end up in my Boutique in a few months, who knows!!......

I finished off the coffee table, which kind of goes with the two end tables I did a couple of weeks ago.  The only difference really is that the end tables have mirror tops and the coffee table has a smokey glass top......

As you can see, if you look closely, it is shabby-chic'd to match with the end tables.

I painted a couple of wooden lighthouses.............

I didn't realize just how much I have done until I started putting them on the post, so I'll just feature one more selection and save the rest for another time.  These are some gorgeous glass containers filled with potpourri and small lights and topped with a beautiful lace doily and vintage flower.  I hope these sell and then I'll make some more..................

Have to finish up with a pic of each of my most precious grandkids.  It will be a couple of months until I see them again (when the snow goes and it's safer to travel), but they are in my heart and thoughts all the time...................
