"This is where I leave you."

Helena, Janis and myself went to see "This is where I leave you".  We were prepared for another one of those silly comedies but were very surprised when it turned out to be quite funny.  I would recommend that you go and see this one.

"The Altman family doesn't get along, and they haven't all been together in years. But when the patriarch dies, the whole clan is expected to fulfill his final wish and sit Shiva for him for an entire week. Now newly divorced, newly jobless Judd Altman has to travel home to face his dysfunctional family, including his hot-to-trot psychiatrist mom, his sarcastic older brother, his unhappy sister and his too-perfect younger brother in an effort to see if family bonds will prevent them from killing one another."

The Cast consisted of many familiar faces.

Jason Bateman as Judd Altman, one of the four combative siblings of the Altman family and the protagonist. He is married to Quinn, whom he recently caught cheating on him with his boss.

Tina Fey as Wendy Altman, one of the four siblings; a responsible mother who is married to Barry and has 2 kids. She is the ex-girlfriend of her childhood friend Horry.

Adam Driver as Phillip Altman, one of the four siblings; the playboy of the family who is nothing like his father. He is the baby of the family who has grown into perhaps the most troubled of the lot.

Rose Byrne as Penny Moore, Judd's high school crush.

Corey Stoll as Paul Altman, one of the four siblings; the no-nonsense brother who is responsible for the family business. He is married to Annie.

Kathryn Hahn as Annie Altman (changed from Alice), Paul's wife. She and Paul have been trying to have a baby for a long time.

Connie Britton as Tracy, Phillip's girlfriend.

Timothy Olyphant as Horry, Wendy's ex-boyfriend, who still lives with his mother across the street from the Altman family home due to a brain injury he suffered when he and Wendy were dating.

Abigail Spencer as Quinn (changed from Jen in the novel), Judd's estranged wife, whom Judd left after discovering her affair with Wade.

Dax Shepard as Wade Boulanger, a shock jock radio personality and Judd's former boss, whom Judd discovered having an affair with Quinn.

Jane Fonda as Hillary Altman, the oversexed widowed mother of Judd, Phillip, Wendy and Paul. She is a celebrity psychologist, having written a highly-successful guide to raising children.

Aaron Lazar as Barry Weissman, Wendy's husband.

Ben Schwartz as "Boner", the family’s young rabbi, who tries to bring a cool, modern edge to their faith’s longstanding traditions of mourning.

Cade Lappin as Cole Altman

Debra Monk as Linda, the Altmans' neighbor, mother of Horry, and Hillary's best friend and confidant.

Will Swenson as the Altmans' father, who makes a brief appearance in a flashback.

I have worked on a few items since my last post.  I turned this rather fragile old child's/doll's chair from this.....

All of these items will be for sale in my Boutique and talking about my Boutique, this is the new sign we all purchased together to go on the outside of the old warehouse where we sell our wares.

My stinking cold is finally on the way out, almost four weeks.  It really put a bit of a dampner on my visit to see the grandkids, but it's certainly heaps better than it was.

Warmer weather is coming, honest!!

Still patiently waiting for the weather to warm up.  Yesterday was not bad at all, sunny and bright, but today it went back to being chilly and dreary.  Good job I can keep myself busy at home.

So, what have I been doing?

I found a rather dirty old footstool and dragged it home and when I went to work on it, ripping off the old material, this is what I found underneath.  Can you imagine how excited I was.  It must be pretty old but I am no expert so when I put it in my Boutique I will ask a reasonable price for it but I think it will be a win/win situation for all.  This is what it looked like (with small legs) when I got it....

Then I worked on an old cabinet - a dear friend of mine had given it to me and it needed quite a bit of TLC but after going out and buying new hinges and searching for a piece of board to fix the back and painting it, but at the same time keeping the original cracked and peeled paint, I ended up with this beauty.....

If I weren't trying to downsize, I would be holding on to this beauty also.  It will be in my Boutique tomorrow also and I'm hoping that someone will snap it up.  The price will be right.

Another piece I finally finished.  I had worked on it a couple of years ago and was using it in my living room but then decided to tidy it up and sell it.  It is so cute in its creaminess with a lovely French decal on top.  I might bring this one back home if it doesn't sell...

Oh yes, and another Inspirational piece I did, this one with a real shabby chic look.  I painted and shabbied the frame and then covered inner board with pale green burlap and then painted letters and glued them on....

It's only when I write my blog that I realize just how busy I have been and not to blow my own trumpet, but I am truly amazed at just how much I can accomplish considering how much pain and ill-health I have.  I am in constant pain with my back and symptoms from Lupus and Fibromyalgia and Heart Disease, and COPD, and, Osteoarthritis, shall I go on?  Better not, because I try not to give place to any of this but sometimes it really is too hard to ignore, so I work through the pain and I always come out ahead.  I'm not the type to indulge in a pity party for too long, except the time when my second hubby died and I had to face all the problems that this marriage and his illness had brought me, and I fell flat on my face, but I managed with some great counselling to pick myself up.

What about this lovely shabby chalkboard?  You like?  You can see that I mainly like doing shabby stuff, LOL

Then there is this lovely little shelf unit.  I keep forgetting to take before pictures but just imagine it a basic typical brown - as you can see, another shabby chic item...

My next project is going to be a cute old desk and chair I bought from a neighbour who was moving out of this apartment building into a retirement home.  This sweet lady, who is in her 80's, said her hubby made this for her many years ago.  Notice the delightfully scalloped edges.  I will also put new hardware on the drawers.  It wasn't cheap but then I wasn't out to take advantage of her, so I will probably have it up for sale in my Boutique when I have it finished for about $20 more than I paid for it and as you can see, it's going to take a lot of work upholstering the chair and chalk painting and waxing both pieces....

Rhys is going to be 5 in June, what a little imp, but so adorable......

Mostly Renos

A few more medical appointments under my belt and both have positive outcomes, thank the Lord.  Last week I had a Cat Scan on my chest because the previous one showed something of concern and this one showed no change, so that was good news.  The other appointment was at the Eye Specialist to monitor my eyes as I have been on a medication for Lupus which could severely damage sight.  Also good news, even though my sight is not very good, due to age, etc. the testing showed that my eyes are healthy and haven't been damaged by the meds (which I now have stopped taking because they weren't good for long term use and really didn't help anyway).  The specialist told me that he could see the beginning of cataracts which I should monitor with a check-up in about a year, but not with him as he is retiring.

I made myself these slippers with wool that dear friend Laurie gave me, not bad for my first pair.....

plus two more scarves for my Boutique....

I just love turning something tossed away into something that can have an extended life after a little tender loving care.  I get so excited when I can find something in the thrift shops and paint it up and make it pretty again.  I found these little wooden blocks which looked the worse for wear and gave them an uplift.  Someone might like them for a mantle decoration for Christmas....

I found this delightful little telephone table which really wasn't in too bad shape, but boring.  This is what I turned it into, from plain to cute......

It turned out so cute that I wanted to keep it but don't have any room for it - too bad!!!

Found this little box and after giving it a coat of paint came up with the idea of turning it into a camouflage box for a little boy or even a big boy who's into that kind of thing, LOL

And last but not least, a medium sized sewing box which needed some attention.  I didn't want to paint it, but treated it with the oil and vinegar technique and ... it turned out almost good as new....
